Site Managers Needed for United Way Tax Campaign

Program:
The United Way of King County tax campaign is committed to helping low income working people in King County keep what they have earned and save for their future. The program is run in collaboration with the Internal Revenue Service, Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Making Connections Initiative, the City of Seattle’s PeoplePoint: Bridge to Benefits Program (formerly known as Help for Working Families) and AARP Tax-Aide, as well as other social service agencies and financial institutions. 

What is the Earned Income Tax Credit?

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a tax benefit for working people who earn low or moderate incomes.  It is the nation’s largest and most efficient anti-poverty program for working families.


What are we doing?
We are providing free tax preparation services at sites across King County from January 16 to April 15, 2007. Taxes will be prepared by IRS-trained and -certified volunteers and electronically filed for a rapid refund.

Purpose of Position:
Site Managers will provide coordination, organization and supervision for operation of one free tax preparation site. Managers will also serve as the tax law specialist for questions or issues that the volunteer tax preparers may have.

Length of Appointment:
The tax sites will be open from January 16th to April 15th, 2007. Each site will be open two to five days per week throughout the tax season. Site Managers will be expected to participate in training sessions starting in October 2006 and complete data collection and campaign evaluations through April 30th, 2007.

Qualifications:
• Strong volunteer management, organization and leadership skills
• Understanding of tax law and preparation desired
• Ability to deal with the public in a helpful, supportive and culturally competent manner
• Friendly, dependable and flexible
• Computer literate
• Ability to speak a second language in addition to English (helpful, but not required)

Benefits:

·        Monetary stipend – $3,000 to $6,000 based on hours of operation.

·        $600 for training
