Educational Opportunity Center

The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a federally funded grant administered through the University of Washington's Office of Minority Affairs. The EOC's goals are to provide educational advice and planning, college/basic studies admissions help, and financial aide (FAFSA) support to low-income and first-generation adults (19 years and older) in King County. EOC is a creative outreach program that helps underrepresented adults gain access into the higher educational pipeline...ANY postsecondary program such as; basic studies (ESL/GED/ABE), certification programs, worker retraining programs, 2 and 4-year colleges, and universities.

The EOC has a staff of 5 (3 counselors and 2 administrators) who all partner and work to provide EOC services to other agencies and educational programs throughout King County. Our program is unique because it is 'out' in the community. In collaboration with Seattle Indian Health Board, El Centro de la Raza, and New Holly Community Centers, our three EOC counselors set up individual meetings and workshops geared toward career interests, college & basic studies information, and financial aide. By this summer of 2004, we will provide several other outreach sites to include; Worksource Renton, local branch libraries, treatment/rehabilitation centers, community events and cultural fairs.
