launch bilingual, after-school Chess Program for Kids |
WHAT: | WonderChess Founder – Michel Alvarez – volunteers to teach El Centro’s children how to play and enjoy the highly beneficial game of chess. |
WHY: | Michel, a former junior chess player, is passionate about the benefits chess offer to children. Numerous studies have shown that children who play chess do better academically and in the development of their maturity. Chess improves critical thinking, concentration, problem solving, memory, visualization, logic, and self-esteem. Chess teaches children how to achieve a goal after exploring different strategies, and how to take responsibility for their decisions and lean from consequences. |
WHEN: | Wednesdays from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm starting 9/29/04 |
WHO: | The program is geared towards Children in K-6th grade. Assistants of all ages are encouraged to help. |
